JCT and NEC Live Training

We are construction specialists and have experience of reviewing and adapting JCT and NEC contracts on a daily basis. Our live training can be based around JCT or NEC contracts, and we do also offer a combined course.

The course can be interactive and bespoke to your business, each industry within the construction sector has its own constraints and challenges, which are unique to you. Within the course your team members will be able to share their experiences and problems that they deal with on a day to day basis, and we help solve some of these through their use of contracts.

What is included in the course?

Although we can tailor the course to you and cover anything you wish, the general topics covered would be:

– The benefits and dangers of JCT and NEC contracts as well as the types you can use

– How to negotiate changes and amend the contracts accordingly

– Understanding payment applications and the processes around these

– Variations and their effects on payments and programmes as well as ensuring the scope of works is correct

– Limiting your liability and risks

– Supplementary documentation such as collateral warranties, vesting agreements and indemnities

– Termination, LADs, retention and much more

How long is the course?

Generally we allow around 4-6 hours to cover either JCT or NEC contracts alone, if you wish to combine these into one, this be a full day course.

How many people can attend?

We would usually suggest around 5-10 people to have the maximum benefit to your business, it can also be offered online via teams, however the group size may be better to be smaller in this instance.

Who should attend?

The JCT and NEC training is designed to give a full overview of the contracts and the issues that can arise from using these. You don’t need to have any specific prior knowledge or qualifications for this course, we will tell you how to effect change in your business from using these contracts. Everyone is welcome whether they are from accounts, sales or contract managers, it can be helpful for the whole team to see how their job role is affected by the contract and terms.

Today we underwent the JCT Contract training hosted by Bev and as a team we collectively agreed this is something that all sub contractors should undergo.

Construction is a challenging and dynamic sector by default and operating as a sub contractor carries a plethora of additional pressures and potentially unseen risks which can all be managed through proper understanding and recognition of how JCT contracts are structured (and intended) to leverage essential business protection.

Bev’s presentation of the training was engaging and structured in a way that made each element relatable to our business. Bev’s approach made contract law and terminology far more understandable and her natural ability to provide context made the learning process seamless. We ended the day with a resounding agreement of how integral this knowledge is to support us in internally managing our risk and will drastically improve our confidence in communicating and negotiating terms for our projects.

Bev’s unquestionable experience and knowledge of contract law have given us what feels like an extra layer of protection and understanding, equipping us to navigate this area of our day to day work with much more confidence than we expected.
The delivery of the course allowed us to recognise that this knowledge is a tool to support our business success, empowering us to negotiate reasonably and responsibly to manage our risks with a real sense of empowerment.

As you can tell, we couldn’t recommend this course enough based on the content and delivery alone, but with our experience as a sub contractor in the sector we can also testify that this is an essential training area for all others.
